The one thing that completely turns me off about SMB, versus the Grand, is the fact that palapas are shared.

I posted a lot of pics on my last review. I may get in to cool off, but I like to look at it for the most part. There is also the chance that the water could be on the rough side at the Grand, but I don't think the water in front of SMB is conducive to swimming either. There are many, many areas with perfect beach entry. The Grand has some ironshore in places along the edge of the water, making beach entry not accessible everywhere, but this is the exception. Mostly because if I dont like it, I can see The Grand from SMB's beach.

I have been curious to try SMB in the past, but when I price it out it is always more expensive than The Grand and I cannot justify paying more for SMB. We love that we can have a romantic time alone or meet and mingle other fun couples. It has a great mix of clientele from young honeymooners to those celebrating anniversaries. We have been to The Grand 3 times and loved it each time. I will say that if you absolutely cannot fathom making dinner reservations or wearing a wristband while on vacation the Grand is not for you. The people who have only been to the Grand (me, 3 times) will probably prefer The Grand, and the people who have only been to SMB will probably say its better. Of the comparisons that I have read, most that have actually been to both prefer the Grand. There are many people who have been to both. I suggest searching for "SMB vs The Grand" in the search box. You will probably get many varying responses from your question as this question has been asked many times. Huge list of top shelf liquors and an extensive wine and beer list. You are all on level playing field receiving the same wonderful service. No preferred club or excellence club or "special" people. One great thing about The Grand is there is no class system. If you were to choose the Grand I suggest either choosing a standard room and saving a bit of $ or choosing one of their amazing ocean front rooms that are literally right on the ocean. The ocean view rooms at the Grand are usually set quite a bit away from the ocean and there are reviewers that are none too happy about it. I actually disagree with the previous poster in her recommendation of getting an ocean view room.
